Pacific Rim star Idris Elba has addressed the rumors that he's being lined up to play suave spy James Bond, revealing that there's both no truth to the story and that he doesn't understand the focus on Bond's race:
I've always detested the phrase 'Black Bond', I just don't understand it. We don't say 'White Bond', we just say 'Bond', so it suddenly becomes a black man and he's a 'Black Bond'. So I hate that phrase - and it's a rumour that's gotten out of control, basically - but that's all it is. There's no truth in it whatsoever.
It's no secret that we here at Moviepilot have something of a man-crush on the British actor and we want to see him in all the movies, all the time. Anybody who's seen his dramatic turn as Detective Chief Inspector John Luther will know that he'd be great as the charismatic MI6 spy with a taste for booze, bullets and women and I still hold out hope that when 's tenure as Bond finally comes to an end, the producers look no further than Elba.
Do you think Elba would make a good Bond? If not, who would you like to see take over after Craig? Sound off in the comments section below.
