If, like us, you are big fans of the British actor, you'll be excited to hear that he's signed on for the lead in Beasts of No Nation, which is set to be directed by Sin Nombre helmer Cary Fukunaga. Beasts of No Nation is based on Uzodinma Iweala's bestselling novel of the same name and is described as follows:
In this stunning debut novel, Agu, a young boy in an unnamed West African nation, is recruited into a unit of guerrilla fighters as civil war engulfs his country. Haunted by his father's own death at the hands of militants, Agu is vulnerable to the dangerous yet paternal nature of his new Commander. While the war rages on, Agu becomes increasingly divorced from the life he had known before the conflict started—a life of school friends, church services, and time with his family still intact.
According to Deadline, Elba will play the role of the Commander as well as taking on producer duties.
It's been a good year for Elba, who starred in 's Pacific Rim as well as reprising his role as the tortured detective in BBC America's Luther. He can also be seen later in the year in Thor: The Dark World and Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom. The Moviepilot office is going to be a very content place indeed.
