First, we're told Independence Day 2 is happening. Excellent. Then we're told there is zero chance would return. Sadness.

Now it seems that director can't make up his mind one way or another. Emmerich told Digital Spy:

I sometimes say no, Will Smith will not be in it because he didn't want to do it at first. Now we have a meeting planned, we want to talk about it again. Anything can happen.

It's vague but exciting news. The mid-90s Sci-Fi classic is fondly remembered by a whole generation. I can still tap into that joy I felt when I first saw Will Smith punch an alien in the face.

Independence Day 2 is in its infancy, although it is apparently released July 3, 2015. The date is set without any news of plot or cast: I guess that's just how these Hollywood types role.

Would you like to see Will Smith return for another Independence Day or is it time to give someone else a chance to punch aliens in the face?
