Fans are eagerly anticipating the release of , which represents the culmination of everything that's come before throughout 10 years in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

But the movie would not be able to have such an impact if it weren't for Marvel Studios and carefully weaving together the different storylines in the universe to create a living, breathing world. But just how interconnected is the MCU? In 2015, TIME created a map detailing how the various films and even TV shows in the franchise relate to one another, and while it's outdated in some aspects, it still holds up and gives us a good sense of just how much effort is put into the MCU's continuity.

At first sight, the map is a little hard to follow, so here's a breakdown of it, updated to what we know has been going on in the :

The Defenders

Connected to:

  • Avengers: Age of Ultron: The Defenders are street-level heroes that help The Avengers. So far, it's unclear whether they'll appear in Infinity War, but Kevin Feige has certainly teased it.
  • Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.: Matt Murdock stayed at the same orphanage where the protagonist of AoS, Daisy/Quake, lived as a child. His father also fought a future enemy of the agents, Carl Creel, a.k.a. The Absorbing Man, during his boxing days.

Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D.

  • Agent Carter: Agent Peggy Carter was one of the founding members of S.H.I.E.L.D. Characters from Agent Carter & the first Captain America movie have also made appearances on AoS.

  • Ant-Man: Hank Pym has a strained relationship with S.H.I.E.L.D thanks to the organization trying to replicate his shrinking formula for war purposes.
