Well, it's the start of a new year and with it comes the realization you've got to start actually working on your New Years Resolutions. You've probably made at least one, whether it's to exercise, stop smoking or even just to do something bigger and better than the year before. It's not going to be easy, but I'm here to help you...in a way. I've compiled 6 great movies you should watch that will show you what can be achieved with a little effort and a little discipline. After all, you don't want to be in same-place you were last year, do you? There's no time to waste! Let's begin...
6. Seeking A Friend For The End Of The World (2012)
God, it's the end of the world, and I'm still 15 minutes late
An odd one for the list you may think but it has a true New Year's message to every one of us... Don't wait. When an asteroid is set to collide with Earth in a few short weeks, #SteveCarell sets out on a road-trip with his English neighbor #KeiraKnightley. On a voyage of discovery, he finds the one thing that eluded him all his life, pure happiness. A bit of a rom-com and not very highly regarded for some reason, this movie will leave you in tears and hopefully give you a push in the right direction.
5. Pursuit Of Happyness (2006)
You want something? Go get it...period
A true American-dream story if there ever was, #WillSmith stars alongside #JadenSmith in this heartbreaking drama. Smith is down on his luck and broke when he accepts an internship at a multinational stock-brokers. If he stays the course the benefits will exceed his wildest dreams but can he survive with a young son and next to no money coming in. After watching this if you don't feel the least bit embarrassed about not chasing your dream against all odds then I don't want to know you. Watch this today!
4. The Secret Life Of Walter Mitty (2014)
Stop dreaming, start living
Shy office worker played by #BenStiller has to shake off his dull surroundings and go on the quest of his life to find a missing photo negative that is the key to the final issue of Life magazine. Co-starring #KristenWiig, this is one rom-com drama that needs to be viewed on at least a twice-weekly basis. If you're tired of seeing the same results, do what Mitty did and get out there!
3. Awakenings (1990)
The human spirit is more powerful than any drug
A real heart breaking drama based on a true story and starring the late #RobinWilliams. A shy doctor gets to know his patients who are in different vegetative states. After getting approval to try a new drug on one patient, played by #RobertDeNiro, he manages to bring a ward of people back to life... including himself. I've seen this movie many times and it never fails to bring a tear to my eye and a feeling of gratitude for being graced with a healthy body. It takes a sick person to show us how fragile and how much we take for granted the most precious gift we have...life.
2.Groundhog Day (1993)
Well, what if there is no tomorrow?
My ultimate feel-good film stars the ever-amazing #BillMurray and is directed by the late great #HaroldRamis. When weather man Phil Connors finds himself trapped in a time loop and living the same day over and over again he falls for his producer played by #AndieMacdowell. However, even with all those extra hours can he learn how to be more of a man and less of a grouch? This movie works on so many levels, perhaps YOUR life is more full of opportunity than you thought? Hmm...
1. Yes Man (2009)
The era of "YES" has begun
This just HAD to make it to number 1 on this list. #JimCarrey stars as a simple man who says NO to everything and doesn't want to broaden his horizons. Cue a seminar hosted by the crazed #TerenceStamp and he's forced to say YES to every opportunity that comes along. Played for hilarity, as you'd expect, by Carrey, this film should really inspire you to take the leap and just agree to change your life for the better. Also seeing #ZooeyDeschanel on screen is always a treat for the eyes... oh those green eyes mmmm.
2017 is Gonna Be YOUR year!
So, soak those movies up and push your body and mind to achieve your dreams now! It might not be easy but then nothing worth having has ever been easy. If I can do it (See my life as a TV extra for proof) then so can YOU! Let me know what your planning to achieve in the comments below and I wish you all the luck in the world.
