Our anticipation is running high as we wait for Season 7 of #AmericanHorrorStory to drop this September. But while that comes around, the people working on the show are not forgetting their fanbase.
The series' past season, #AHSRoanoke held a panel at PaleyFest this past Sunday, which was attended by several prominent members of the cast, such as Sarah Paulson, Kathy Bates, and Cuba Gooding Jr. But what was supposed to be a fun time between actors and fans ended up turning into one of the hottest debates on the Internet right now.
At the beginning of the panel, the actors had fun being introduced, as #SarahPaulson excitedly greeted her co-star, Kathy Bates as she took to the stage. And it was then when the controversial moment occurred: Cuba Gooding Jr. slowly began to lift Paulson's skirt. Take a look at the video:
The actress eventually realized what was happening, pulled her skirt down and laughed it off. But people didn't see that as a playful moment, and as it usually goes in today's social-media era...
The Internet Was Not Having It
People were pretty vocal about those actions. Here's what they had to say:
Of course, as it goes with public opinion, not everyone saw ill intent in the actor's actions:

"I was there! She also playfully hit his arm and put her hand on his leg. They were playing the entire panel discussion. Probably this playfulness started backstage. But there was no harassment here."
Another person stated:
"As an actor, I can tell you that when we work with other actors for LONG stretches of time, a kind of camaraderie exists where things that look strange to others is a playfulness between us. Sometimes, there is a running joke onset and things like this are all in good fun."

From what we've been hearing, the panel was a fun time for everyone involved. And according to Digital Spy, Gooding Jr. had previously tried to lift the actress' skirt, which resulted in a playful slap from her. So Sarah Paulson might not have taken #CubaGoodingJr.'s actions in a bad way. But that in no way means that what the actor did was okay. And it's also reasonable to think that even if she hadn't been okay with it, Paulson wouldn't have made a big deal about it on stage, in public, or risk an awkward PR moment.
Yes, Paulson and Gooding Jr. are good friends, they've worked together in the past for extensive periods of time, such as in #ThePeopleVsOJSimpson and obviously AHS. But if that's the nature of their close relationship, that's between them. There is a time and a place to carry that out, and it's certainly not in front of hundreds of people. Therefore, yes, - even though it probably wasn't his intention - what he did was incredibly disrespectful.
What did you think about Cuba Gooding Jr.'s actions?
