It's official! Iron Man 3 director will bring the muscle man Doc Savage to the big screen, following the blockbuster success of his current -starring superhero sequel.

After last week's excitement over Black's words, revealing his "guiding passions" for the Man of Bronze character, the Lethal Weapon director has now inked up a contract with Sony to co-write and direct the Doc Savage flick.

According to Latino Review, president of production for Sony, Hannah Minghella, revealed that:

We couldn't be more excited to be building a franchise from the ground up with Shane and this team. Shane and Neal have a fantastic understanding of the character and a great take on the material and we can't wait to get this production up and running.

Given Doc Savage's radio, television and movie background, plus the definite scope for a tongue-in-cheek approach to the script, I can understand why this one might have attracted Black. As for who might take the lead role (anyone think could do the character justice?), let the speculation start below...

Are you comfortable with Shane Black directing Doc Savage, or, after what he did to Iron Man 3, would you sooner let the man direct traffic?
