This probably won't come as a surprise to most of you, but Marvel is continuing its box office domination with the release of Iron Man 3. The movie, which released last month, is now the fifth highest grossing movie of all time (with figures not adjusted for inflation).

Iron Man 3 has currently brought in a colossal $1.18 billion worldwide, placing it just behind Harry Potter and The Deathly Hallows Part 2 ($1.3 billion). However, it still has some way to go to beat The Avengers, Marvel's highest grossing movie. 's superhero ensemble is currently sitting pretty in third place, having racked in over $1.5 billion.

Of course, Avatar still inexplicably sits at the top spot with an absolutely mind-boggling $2.7 billion. Personally, I still haven't seen it...

Marvel has a few more big budget superhero movies on the horizon. Thor: The Dark World will release on November 8, while Captain America: The Winter Soldier will hit theaters in 2014. Can these superhero flicks also break the $1 billion mark?

What do you think? Iron Man 3 seems to have upset a lot of die hard fans, does it deserve to make so much money? Let me know below.
