Our friends at Latino Review might have quite the exclusive on their hands! Iron Man 3 is really heating up as far as casting goes, but what about the storyline? We've been speculating for months on who or what is going to feature in the continuing adventures of Tony Stark and the best we could land on is that the Extremis virus will be somehow involved. And maybe Ben Kingsley is the Mandarin. And maybe Guy Pearce is the villain?
We're not sure what will happen but Latino Review seems to be pretty sure about one thing:
Ben Kingsley is playing the Mandarin. He seems to be more of a behind the scenes player than a genuine threat for Stark though, with Guy Pearce's Aldritch Killain stepping up as the main villain. Here's what they reported:
Here’s what we can CONFIRM as true (and not from some guy working security on an off-lot shoot): The Mandarin (as played by Ben Kingsley) is a villain in the ‘Iron Man 3,’ but he’s more a veiled threat as a silent partner to Guy Pearce’s Aldrich Killian. Killian is the man inventing Extremis and putting it into his “Extremis army” of multiple super-powered individuals.
Looks like Extremis is front and center too. For those not in the know, the Extremis storyline follows a nanobot virus that Stark eventually integrates into his own body so he can store the Iron Man armor safely in his bones. (Normal Saturday afternoon stuff!) It's pretty cool, give it a read.
In other awesome Iron Man 3 news. Guess what The Superficial picked up while snooping around the set:
Do you know what that is?! That's the IRON PATRIOT armor! The armor worn by Norman Osborn (aka The Green Goblin) in the comics when he took over the world (more or less). Osborn lead a group of evil Avengers while the world thought that he was doing some proper good work( and he wasn't).
Goblin wore the armor in the comic, but he of course is totally owned by Sony, in the same way Spider-Man is. So it's safe to say that's not Willem Dafoe or another Osbornesque actor.
Latino Review posted a theory online that might help us in deciphering just who or what is under that extremly patriotic looking set of metal threads:
This is actually Detroit Steel, or something more like him, from the current run of Invincible Iron Man (introduced in 2010).
Detroit Steel was the first of Steelcorps: armor Hammer Industries sold to anyone who could pay for it in the comics. And seeing as how ‘Iron Man 2′ ended with Hammer Industries having enough of the Iron Man tech to make an army full of drones, this would make a BIT more sense as to why this armor is showing up in ‘Iron Man 3′
The Superficial seems to think it's newly-cast James Badge Dale in the suit. He will be playing Eric Savin, a.k.a. the cyborg Coldblood, so this just raises more questions.
Either way, it's a cool new development and I have no issues with Shane Black incorporating elements from other comic books into the Extremis storyline.
All in all, it looks like Tony Stark is in for one hell of a ride!
