's next role could see the Hollywood A-lister killing Jesus.
The movie will follow the life of Lucius Pontius Pilate, from his roots as a discerning son of a Roman knight, to ferocious soldier and finally commanding authority under the orders of Roman Emperor Tiberius and will chart the events that led to his monumental decision to put Jesus Christ to death. Epic stuff.
Blasi spent ten years researching Pontius Pilate and claims the movie is 80% historically accurate, but also allowing for some dramatic licence. Think Braveheart, but with more sand and less Mel Gibson.
However, is Pitt a good choice to take on such a weighty and historically significant role? Undoubtedly, he's a fine actor and I thought he was excellent in Inglourious Basterds and The Tree of Life, but I'm not sure he has the gravitas to pull of a convincing Pilate. Isn't he also too pretty to play the killer of Christ? I kind of enjoyed Troy, but at no point did I believe that Achilles was a battle-hardened Bronze Age warrior. Pitt is almost peerless when playing contemporary roles, but I have my doubts when it comes to historical epics.
Biblically inspired movies seem to be all the rage in Hollywood at the moment. Russel Crowe will be saving all the animals two-by-two in 's Noah, while wants to direct and possibly star in The Redemption of Cain.
It's also shaping up to be a productive 2013 for Pitt. He's got apocalyptic zombie blockbuster World War Z hitting theaters in June, followed by 's 12 Years A Slave and then 's The Counselor. Busy boy.
