Director has seriously exercised his artistic licence in his adaption of J.R.R. Tolkien's The Hobbit in the past, but has he gone too far this time?

Why don't you judge for yourself? Here is J.R.R Tolkien's description of Beorn from the original book:

Beorn was of immense size and strength for a man, and retained his size and strength in bear-form. He had black hair (in either form) and a thick black beard and broad shoulders (in human form). While not a "giant" outright, Beorn's human form was of such great size.

Now compare with the Peter Jackson version:

He looks pretty gnarly to say the least, but what are your thoughts?
