has been expected to reprise his role of Jack Bauer in a movie version of the Fox action series since it came to an end in 2010.
But, according to Olympus Has Fallen director , a 24 movie will not be happening.
Fuqua has been attached to helm the project since signing up last year, but it has remained in development hell over the past three years.
When asked about the status of the flick, Fuqua told The Playlist:
Yeah, that's not happening. I don't think it's gonna happen at all, definitely not with me... I met with Kiefer [Sutherland], Fox wanted to do it, it was a matter of his schedule before he went off to do his new show [Touch]...
It was rumored that there were issues with the budget, and that Fox gave Sutherland a rather low offer to star in the big-screen continuation of the series. While Fuqua wouldn't exactly confirm those rumors, he believes a deal was never solidified between Sutherland and the studio.
I don't think he was able to get a proper agreement with Fox. The time just passed, and I went off to go to what I was doing.
All of which doesn't sound particularly hopeful for the future of the project. Well, that's that then. Goodbye 24 and Jack Bauer, you will be sorely missed... Disappointing news? Or should Bauer be left well alone?
