Comic Book publishers Boom! Studios are building a big following among lovers of great cartoons, having already revived fan favorite series in comic book form, while also producing companion comics for those still airing, like Adventure Time. In July 2017, the company announced a new partnership with , with the first product of this deal being a new comic book series based on the much-loved 90s classic Rugrats.

Now, with Rugrats #1 due for release in October, we may have just received our first glimpse of how the babies will look in the comic.

The New-Look 'Rugrats'

An active, well-known fan-page, 'The Rise And Fall of Nickelodeon', recently shared the above picture on Facebook and Twitter, claiming the designs came from Boom!. While they are not 100% confirmed to be genuine by Boom!, the pictures are quite similar in style to some other Boom! Studios cartoon tie-ins. If they are the real deal, Boom! may be on to a winner, seeing as the designs have received a mostly positive reception from fans. While they are a lot cleaner and smoother than the original Klasky-Csupo designs, the characters are still recognizable as the Rugrats we all know and love.

A Glimpse At The Future?

A potential revival of Rugrats has long been rumored. The series creators are apparently both on board with the idea and have met with Nickelodeon. With the upcoming Hey Arnold: The Jungle Movie, Rocko's Modern Life, and Invader Zim TV specials, a Rugrats special or revival seems even more likely. Interestingly, the possible new character designs look somewhat similar to those of , a current Nickelodeon favorite.

It stands to reason that if the new-look characters are genuine, Nickelodeon would have approved them first, and probably had some input in the design process. Given the similarities to The Loud House, the Boom! Studios Rugrats wouldn't look at all out of place on Nickelodeon today. It's possible that the network is using the comics to let fans fall in love with the new appearances of Tommy, Chuckie, Phil and Lil before announcing a TV revival. If this is the case, it is a very clever move that would help make a Rugrats reboot a hit with old and new fans alike.

All we can do is wait for the truth. Boom! Studios Rugrats #1 is due for release on October 18, 2017.
