Per The Wrap, we've learned that will officially be directing the first installment in the new Star Wars trilogy.

Not even a month ago we reported a piece on Abrams explicitly denying any involvement in the beloved franchise, going so far as saying he openly turned down a seat in the director's chair.

This was either a major swerve to fool fans into thinking he wasn't in the running, or LucasFilm President Kathleen Kennedy finally found the perfect pitch to bring him aboard.

Either way, this is massive news for fans of Star Wars, and an incredible new notch on the belt of Abrams, who is solidifying himself as the go-to director for fresh angles on highly visible franchises.

With writer (The Hunger Games: Catching Fire, Toy Story 3) already set to develop the script, Star Trek Into Darkness already in post, and a 2015 release date already promised by Disney, Abrams will likely have to jump directly into Star Wars: Episode VII — The Force Awakens.

What does this mean to the fans? Well, that's where your opinion comes in. We have a comment section, let's get to using it. Tell us how you feel about this monumental Star Wars news below.
