With the sad passing of legendary author Tom Clancy this week, it's fitting that the first trailer for Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit has been released by Paramount. Star Trek Into Darkness's is the latest person to step into Ryan's CIA Analyst shoes, while Thor helmer is both the man behind the camera and a Russian bad guy.
Check out the trailer and see what you think:
It's undoubtedly a slick trailer, but if I'm being honest, I didn't find it particularly thrilling. I know it's not fair to judge a movie on two-and-a-half minutes of action, but Jack Ryan looked like Jack Reacher, which looked Jason Bourne, which looked like James Bond. There didn't seem to be a whole lot of originality in there. And what's with the megalomaniacal bad guy with a Russian accent. Is that seriously happening again?
But like I said, this is only a trailer. With the talent involved in Shadow Recruit both in front and behind the camera, it could be a more-than-decent addition to the action/spy genre. Also Chris Pine is really good at running, so there's always that to look forward to.
