After the first movie transported fans right into the stratosphere, and beyond, we're all eagerly awaiting Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, the first of #Marvel's movies to drop this year. And we're starting the Easter Egg hunt early, as several references were teased in the trailers.
Director James Gunn is fully aware of how we hunger for that eggy, nerdy goodness, so he's already teasing what we can expect from #GuardiansoftheGalaxy2 in terms of Easter Eggs, telling Fandango exactly when the first reference will be hidden.
Refusing to give too much away, Gunn told Fandango when the Easter Egg would pop up onscreen — but he didn't say what it would be.
"I guess it depends on what you call an Easter egg, but there’s definitely a very, very distinctly cool Easter egg that’s like the fourth shot [of the movie]. It’s a very cool Easter egg very early in the movie. Something that fans of mine will recognize from other films."
Instead of being a nod to classic Eighties movies, a #scifi reference, or even a jerry-rigged handheld football game, this Easter Egg seems to be something quintessentially James Gunn, perhaps something that he hides in each one of his films.
Gunn's Easter Eggs are notoriously hard to find — in fact, the director claims that fans still haven't spotted the final Easter Egg in the first Guardians of the Galaxy. Speaking to Comicbook.com earlier this year, Gunn revealed that hiding references was a big part of his filmmaking, thanks to an enthusiastic fan response to all his geeky Easter Eggs so far.
"Oh my God. Our Easter egg obsession is insane. We have so many incredibly obscure Easter eggs in this movie that it's ridiculous. Yeah, we've been working hard on the Easter eggs. I feel this need to do it now since people have been pouring over stuff so much."
So keep your eyes peeled while you're watching Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, as there are sure to be just as many Easter Eggs as in the previous film — and perhaps even more.
