From director issues to script rewrites the road to the Dark Knight's first solo film in the has been a bumpy one, but it looks like the path ahead may finally be smoothing out for The Batman as production moves forward.

At this time it looks like Matt Reeves is set to direct and Ben Affleck will remain in his role as the Caped Crusader.

However, the early troubles the production experienced before the film even had a chance to get off the ground has left many fans understandably worried about the quality of Batman's next big-screen adventure.

Thankfully, director James Managold (Logan, The Wolverine) has stepped up to help ease fan anxiety and remind us there's a reason to be excited for the upcoming film, because he is.

A few days ago, a fan on Twitter asked Mangold if he had ever considered doing a Batman film, and this was his response.

First of all, mad props to this fan who managed to sit through Logan three whole times. I could barely get through the first time without breaking down in tears. But what is important is what Mangold says about Reeves taking on the role. It is obvious that he thinks that Reeves is going to do a great job, and that's encouraging.

This isn't the first major blockbuster for Reeves either. He directed Cloverfield, Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, and its follow up War of the Planet of the Apes. So Reeves has a good track record of making solid big-budget films with heavy effects.

So if James Mangold, who made what many people are considering one of the best superhero movies ever made, thinks that Matt Reeves will do a great job on The Batman, we can all breathe a bit easier.

Batman is in good hands. Until then, we can look forward to seeing Affleck as Batman once again in later this year.
