From the first announcement that Jason Momoa would be taking up the mantle of Aquaman, fans of the character couldn't help be fell ecstatic. I mean, one look at the guy and you will instantly understand their enthusiasm. That said, perhaps the best part of Momoa's casting was that fans felt they had an actor who truly respected the character. Little do most fans know that Momoa feels as if he owes his career to the role of Aquaman. Let's see why, shall we?
Momoa Expresses Thankfulness
Recently, Momoa sat down for an interview with The Hollywood Reporter to discuss some of his various upcoming projects. When Aquaman gets brought up in the conversation, what Momoa says is truly amazing:
"I haven't been an actor who's been able to pick and choose roles, and being a family man, it's been about putting food on the table. This has been the best moment of my career because the superhero roles are letting me get the other roles I want."
Momoa continued on to express how hard it was to keep his casting a secret, and the relief of knowing where his career will be down the line.
"I knew I had the role in late 2012 or early 2013. I was trying to get any role I could, and not having much luck. So, knowing what your future is going to be in the next five or six years and having to keep your mouth shut is brutal."
Pretty awesome story in my opinion. Although, what's really interesting is how Momoa eventually attempts to subtly put to rest the negative rumors surrounding Justice League.
Momoa Calls Snyder A 'Genius'
Later in the interview, Momoa plays First, Best, Last, Worst. During the game Momoa states that The Flash is the best character in the Justice League. The actor expressed how he and Flash actor, Ezra Miller, are like brothers. That said, things really get interesting in the video above when Momoa is asked to express in one word his opinion of Justice League director Zack Snyder. To which he responds, "genius."
As many fans have already heard, many negative rumors are currently surrounding the Justice League film. In fact, one source has gone as far as saying that the film is "a mess." So maybe this is Momoa's way of saying nothing is wrong and the film is going to be awesome? Either way, I find it encouraging that Momoa seems to have a lot of confidence in both his co-stars and in director Zack Snyder.
I think it's great that way have Jason Momoa as Aquaman. He's going to bring the character up to the level it deserves and put on a fantastic performance in both his solo outing and the #JusticeLeague film. As for his thoughts on Snyder, maybe Momoa is right to call him a genius? Who knows? It may be the higher-ups that are tampering with everything? Only time will tell!
