It must mightily piss off to always be described as Ingmar Bergman's muse. Ullmann has herself directed her fare share of films but, hell, how could you not make the connection to the Swedish master of bleakness, when Ullmann’s projects would have been right up his alley?
Her next project, Miss Julie, is an adaptation of August Strindberg’s eponymous play, and she has assembled an exquisite cast for her effort. According to Variety, , , and have joined the cast of the drama, which is Ullman's first film in more than 12 years.
The drama showcases the love affair of the titular noble lady (Chastain) with a very well-read and far-traveled servant (Farrell). The affair quickly goes to some very dark places, with power and class playing a privotal role. If you want to know the tone of the whole thing, imagine watching Downton Abbey with a mean hangover.
