It’s the holiday time of the year folks, and you know what that means: ugly jumpers, awkward family get-togethers, and nativity plays. While a new legion of toddlers belt dish cloths to their heads to resemble shepherds - we can ask ourselves, who actually was Jesus?
This age-old question is to be answered as Lionsgate announced that they have acquired the rights to produce a feature film to the New York Times bestseller Zealot: The Life and Times of Jesus of Nazareth by author Dr. Reza Aslan. The interesting book sheds new light on Christianity's most enigmatic character by investigating the times in which he lived.
In an interview, Dr. Aslan said,
"I am thrilled to have the opportunity to work with Lionsgate. Their vision for 'Zealot: The Life and Times of Jesus of Nazareth' is aligned with my objective in writing the book, which was to illuminate the life of Jesus in a humanistic, as opposed to religious, context.
The movie is announced at a time when there is a deluge of biblical epics coming to our screens. With 's Noah and 's Exodus: Gods and Kings to be released in the new year, and other movies in the pipeline such as Jesus Of Nazareth (helmed by the director of - wait for it - Showgirls), this new Jesus epic seems to be part of a trend.
So what do you think? Are you stoked for this new wave of interest into Jesus? Let me know in the comment box.
