New York City was shrouded in magic last Thursday night, when the world observed the cast waltz down the red carpet of the Lincoln Center for the movie's premiere.

Joining our beloved and , ahead of his performance as Newt Scamander, were a number of other cast members including Alison Sudol, Katherine Waterston, Ezra Miller, Faith Wood-Blagrove and Zoe Kravitz. Earlier on in the day, the actors had held a press conference to talk about the 1920s wizarding world they were soon bringing to the big screen.

The premiere on Thursday night also saw producer David Heyman share reasons why was cast as Grindelwald, saying:

"Why did we cast him? Because he’s iconic. He’s an iconic actor and we needed an iconic actor to play this part. Johnny’s created two or three iconic people, people who are unforgettable. He makes choices and that was really, really important. We wanted somebody who could in the one hand seduce, but on the other hand be really scary. Johnny can do that. He was an absolute pleasure to work with."

Unfortunately, probably to keep up elusive appearances, the actor was nowhere to be seen at the red carpet gathering.

However, Johnny Depp's absence certainly didn't put a downer on the festivities as a couple of alumni were wonderful enough to grace us with their presence on the big night. Although the famous trio (Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson and Rupert Grint) weren't there, we did get to feast our eyes on the beautiful Evanna Lynch (our Luna Lovegood), looking absolutely stunning in a deep red gown:

The actress was also joined by Bonnie Wright, who shared a special message for Pottermore on the red carpet. Here she is brimming with excitement about the release of Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them just as much as we are:
