Big week in more head-spinning news coming from the DCEU. Earlier this week it was announced that Warner Bros. was developing a standalone Joker origin movie, reportedly produced by Martin Scorsese. The movie will be set apart from the DC Extended Universe, with a new, younger actor taking on the role that was played by Jared Leto in Suicide Squad.

That doesn't mean Leto's Joker is out of the equation, though. In fact, he's about to become one of the biggest players in the . Right after the news of the Joker standalone movie broke, Warner Bros. hustled to confirm Leto would still star in both Gotham City Sirens and Suicide Squad 2.

But wait, there's more! Just in case that's not quite enough Joker for you, a new report has dropped that says a Joker and Harley Quinn spinoff is also on the way.

Harley Quinn And The Joker Are Back

According to The Hollywood Reporter, John Requa and Glenn Ficarra (Crazy, Stupid, Love and Focus) are in final negotiations to write and direct a and spinoff that's being described as a "criminal love story."

Nope, you're not hallucinating, this is actually happening. Both Jared Leto and are expected to reprise their roles, so we can safely assume that this movie is part of the DC Extended Universe—then again, with how many times DC has seemingly changed its mind in the last few months, who knows?

As to when we'll get to see this spinoff, Warner Bros. is planning to release it after . It doesn't look like we'll have to wait long for either of these projects, because according to THR, the studio is fast-tracking both of them. Because of this, the film is expected to hit theaters before Martin Scorsese's Joker origin story.

While plot details are being kept under wraps, Deadline is reporting that the movie will center around Harley and Joker's toxic relationship, which, depending upon how it's handled, could go far to appease the multitudes of fans who were unhappy with how Suicide Squad romanticized the abusive relationship. A rumor surfaced during this year's San Diego Comic-Con about Warner Bros. developing a Harley Quinn vs Joker spinoff. Seeing how similar the two projects sound, the final movie could very well be a conflict-centric story focused on the acrimonious relationship between the Clown Prince of Crime and Harley Quinn after she escapes the abuse and becomes her own person.

The thing that worries me about the report, however, is how the film is being called a "love story." Joker is an unbelievably abusive individual in the comics, but Suicide Squad decided to gloss over that to paint him like the ultimate heartthrob. 's got quite a tenure in the DCEU ahead of him, as he's also appearing in Gotham City Sirens, so hopefully his Joker is explored as the true psychopath he is, as opposed to a loving but just overly passionate boyfriend.

How do you feel about the new Harley Quinn/Joker spinoff? What would you like to see in it? Let me know in the comments!
