The celebrity Star Wars cameos just keep on coming! While answering questions during a promotional tour in Japan, director of The Last Jedi Rian Johnson excitedly announced that his 3-time collaborator will be lending his voice as an alien for the film. Of course, he didn't reveal any details but he's certainly looking forward to fans trying to catch this quick appearance.

"It's a very brief, little thing but it's fun and if you watch the movie, maybe you'll be able to hear and pick out Joe's voice... It's the first time I'm revealing that."

Gordon-Levitt will be joining the British Royals as well as his Inception co-star as cameos for the highly anticipated film. Although we will certainly be focusing on every single frame during The Last Jedi, the cameos sprinkled throughout will certainly be a neat thing to keep an eye (or ear) out for.

Johnson And Gordon-Levitt's Stellar Professional Relationship

It's no surprise that Johnson would want to include his good friend in arguably one of the biggest productions of his career. The two talents have collaborated on three of Johnson's four feature length productions including The Last Jedi. Gordon-Levitt starred in Johnson's feature length directorial debut in 2005's Brick, where many praised his performance as a teenage loner, Brendan Frye.

He also starred in an uncredited cameo as a Bar Patron in the 2008 comedy The Brothers Bloom. This appearance by Gordon-Levitt in one of Johnson's lesser known films proves he's clearly no stranger when it comes to popping up in movies. Johnson even described how that cameo came about during a 2009 interview, and it's just as random as you'd think.

"[Gordon-Levitt] came out to visit us in Belgrade for a few weeks and we snuck him in that scene... Noah Segan, who plays Dode in 'Brick', is the guy at the table with Mark Ruffalo. The vague idea was that this was supposed to be like the wrap party for the previous con, so I put all the 'Brick' people in there, basically. It was fun to have a place to fit them all in."

Their most well known collaboration is the 2012 sci-fi thriller Looper saw Gordon-Levitt tackle the responsibility of playing a younger Bruce Willis. During an interview with THR around the time of its release, Johnson praised his friend's ability to handle such a challenge – and it really goes to show how much faith the director has in Gordon-Levitt's abilities.

"Joe bore most of the challenge on his shoulders ... he had to create a living, breathing character who you'd also buy as the younger version of another actor. No small trick. But Joe is incapable of approaching a part with anything but honesty, so I wasn't really worried."

Gordon-Levitt echoed a similar sentiment expressed by Johnson, stating the following about his director in an interview with Collider:

"It’s an honor to be in his movies. It was an honor to be in his first movie. And he wrote this role [in 'Looper'] for me, which has never happened to me before, that [a] writer actually wrote a role for me to act in. That meant a lot."

Given this mutually high praise, I'm sure we'll see more collaborations in the future. In fact, many fans are eager to see Rian Johnson take on the directorial responsibilities for Episode IX, since Colin Trevorrow's departure from the project. However, whether we'll see another Rian Johnson-led Star Wars movie is still unknown, with the director himself stating he's "not really thinking about that right now."

For now, let's see how his vision comes to fruition with Star Wars Episode VIII: The Last Jedi, which releases in theaters on December 15th, 2017.
