has emerged as the early front runner to land the role of the Dark Knight in 's Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. According to a couple of sources over at The Hollywood Reporter, Warner Bros. is looking to cast a Bruce Wayne/Batman in his "late 30s or around the 40 mark" who will be an "established and rugged" character and Brolin is well-liked by the studio. He has already headlined for Warner Bros. before in Jonah Hex and Gangster Squad, and there's no doubting he can do "grizzled" with the best of them.
At 32 Gosling is the youngest of the group but has been linked to the role before, while Manganiello, Armitage and Goode have all starred in superhero movies in the past. Manganiello played high-school jock/bully/cuckold in 's Spider-Man and was also on Snyder's radar for Clark Kent in Man of Steel before landed the part; Armitage played Nazi spy and super assassin Heinz Kruger in Captain America: The First Avenger and Goode got suited up as Adrian Veidt/Ozymandias in Watchmen.
The site also claim that Batman vs Superman is aiming for a tone and fight similar to Frank Miller's graphic novel The Dark Knight Returns, which saw Batman come out of retirement and battle Supes, who had become a puppet for the government. If this is true then I think Brolin would be a good choice for the role.
It's early days for the production and a script still has to be written, so stick close and we'll keep you updated on all the latest developments.
