In yet another celebrity split we didn't see coming, actor Josh Duhamel and singer Fergie have announced their separation following 13 years together. The couple released a joint statement revealing they separated "earlier this year" and continued by stating they'll remain united in support of one another:

“To give our family the best opportunity to adjust, we wanted to keep this a private matter before sharing it with the public. We are and will always be united in our support of each other and our family.”

Duhamel met Fergie back in September 2004 when she and her band The Black Eyed Peas appeared on his NBC series Las Vegas. In a 2007 interview, he revealed the pick-up line he used that ultimately led to them fostering a relationship:

“After they finished rehearsing, I was walking out, and all of a sudden she was walking toward me... I was like, Oh boy. She stopped. And this is so sad, but I said, in this desperate voice, ‘You’re hot!'”

Duhamel and Fergie share an adorable 4 year old son named Axl Jack, brilliantly named after legendary rocker Axl Rose. They recently celebrated their 8 year wedding anniversary in January with a few snaps taken for Instagram.

A Collection Of Tweets From Heartbroken Fans

As is with every celebrity marriage, if a separation is announced you can faintly hear the collective hearts of legions of fans simultaneously breaking. Many took to twitter to express their disbelief with the news and wonder whether love exists:

While the separation of a marriage is certainly difficult, it's encouraging to hear they will continually support each other for the sake of the family they created. We wish and all the best in their future endeavors and with co-parenting their son.
