Variety have reported that and will both 'write and produce the live-action adaptation of Mattel’s Monster High franchise for Universal Pictures' under their Fake Empire banner.

They will be joined by and , who brought the project to the studio.

Variety clarified that:

Plot details are unknown, except that the film will be based on the doll franchise, popular with teen and tween girls, that centers on the perfectly imperfect teenage children of the world’s most famous monsters.

Where 'Mattel’s Playground Productions is executive producing', Variety have said that Schwartz and Savage will reunite with the team including Universal’s VP of production Maradith Frenkel. Chloe Yellin will become the Creative executive and will oversee the project after having worked with the team recently 'on the romantic drama Endless Love'.
