Legends Of Tomorrow has really delivered some great storylines this season. Having vastly improved from its already enjoyable first outing, Season 2 of Legends has seen our favorite time-traveling #superheroes pulling out all the stops to track down the Spear of Destiny, reunite with their captain Rip Hunter and stop the Legion of Doom. So, with all that in mind, you can see why we're expecting big things from the Season finale. And it looks like our hopes have been granted, as Executive Producer Marc Guggenheim tweeted a shot of the cast list for the finale.
Judging by the cast list, the season finale — titled "Aruba" — is set to be an explosive one. With the Legion's presence, we should expect to see their rivalry with the Legends come to a head as the opposing teams battle for the Spear of Destiny. Moreover, along with John Barrowman, the episode also happens to feature Wentworth Miller and Katie Cassidy — all of whom have signed series regular contracts across all CW shows. Thus, let's take a look at what the crammed cast list means for the season finale.
Laurel Lance Is Back
Ever since #Arrow's Laurel Lance was killed off in Season 4 of the show, Black Canary fans made their voices heard — campaigns were started to bring her back and Arrow's ratings saw a major decline — proving just how much they wanted her back on the show. While Katie Cassidy has reappeared on the show since, she has portrayed Laurel in a flashback, a dream sequence as well as her villainous Earth-2 doppelganger Black Siren.
Guggenheim's reveal doesn't just indicate that Katie Cassidy will be returning to Legends Of Tomorrow, but that she will be portraying the Laurel Lance we know and love. If she was returning as Black Siren, she would likely be listed as such. Thus, it gives us hope that we might finally see Laurel get the justice she deserves and return from the dead. Moreover, given the Season 2 storyline of Legends, a Laurel Lance revival is the only real justifiable ending to Sara Lance's arc. The White Canary has spent Season 2 trying to bring Laurel back. She began the season attempting to kill Damien Darhk and thus, prevent Laurel's murder from ever taking place. And while she has steered further away from that plan, there is still hope for Laurel — the Spear Of Destiny.
While we have all quivered at the thought of what the Legion could do with the Spear, have we ever stopped to think what will happen should a hero get hold of it? Sara Lance is now a Time Master and thus, she's aware of how it must be protected. Furthermore, she has also done her best to refrain from killing anyone. However, there is one way of getting her sister back without changing the timeline or killing anyone — changing fate. The Spear of Destiny has the ability to rewrite fate itself — something that was never kind to the Black Canary. And with Laurel's death having such an emphasis on this season, anything other than a Laurel Lance revival would be a complete disappointment.

Will Laurel Join The Legends In Season 3?
As the impact of Laurel's death played a major role throughout Season 2 of Legends Of Tomorrow, it's only fitting that she be present for the culmination of the arc in the season finale. While you might think that Laurel's appearance could either be the result of a flashback or Sara temporarily visiting an earlier timeline version of her — the Season 1 finale already revisited the past version of Leonard Snart while Sara visited Laurel's grave instead. It would be a little redundant to repeat storylines a year later.
Moreover, let's not forget that based on Guggenheim's tweet, the episode also includes the man responsible for Laurel's death. Could the Black Canary end up coming face to face with her killer and defeating him?
So while there's a strong possibility that Laurel could make it out of Season 2 of Legends alive, we have to wonder what the future could hold for her. After all, Arrow has already installed a new character to take up the Black Canary mantle. Thus, it's possible that Laurel could end up joining her sister and the rest of the Legends in the time stream. While Cassidy's contract ensures that she can appear in all shows, it will likely need to be renegotiated at the end of the season. So if Laurel is revived, it's possible the actress could end up becoming a series regular on Season 3 of Legends Of Tomorrow. I've always felt that Laurel's Black Canary would be a perfect fit for the Waverider crew, and her addition to the team would be the perfect culmination to Sara's Season 2 arc.
J.R.R. Tolkien Is In The Finale
Yes, ladies and gentlemen you read that right — J.R.R. Tolkien will be appearing in the season finale of Legends Of Tomorrow. The writer is of course synonymous with iconic works The Hobbit and the #LordOfTheRings series — both of which would go on to become incredibly successful film series as well. He will be portrayed by Jack Turner — who we can only assume is the same Jack Turner that starred on Stitchers between 2015 and 2016. While we don't quite know what role Tolkien will play in the finale, it has definitely piqued my interest.
This isn't the first time Legends Of Tomorrow has featured famous real life characters — the most recent being the legendary Star Wars filmmaker George Lucas. The Legion's interaction with Lucas caused him to steer clear of filmmaking and resulted in a massive time aberration as Star Wars and Raiders Of The Lost Ark never saw the light of day. Thankfully, the Legends helped George rediscover his passion and the classics returned. So could we something similar happen with Tolkien? After all, Lord Of The Rings is arguably as significant to us as those films, right? But will they still exist by the time Season 2 of Legends concludes?
As the Season 2 finale of Legends Of Tomorrow draws nearer, it truly looks like the #TV series is going to pull out all the stops. Much like all of the #Arrowverse shows, the series will undoubtedly deliver an action-packed finale, full of epic moments. But with Marc Guggenheim's tease, it's looking like we're going to see so much more. Not only will the Legends of Tomorrow collide with the Legion of Doom one more time, we will also see the return of Captain Cold, the arrival of J.R.R. Tolkien and the possible resurrection of Laurel Lance. Get ready Legends, Season 2 is set to bow out in a huge way.
