Julia Louis-Dreyfus recently made history when she won her eighth Emmy at the 69th Primetime Emmy Awards, but on the heels of her victory, she received some truly terrible news. On Thursday, September 28, Louis-Dreyfus took to her official Twitter account and revealed that she was recently diagnosed with breast cancer.
In the #Veep star’s Twitter post, she released a statement revealing her diagnosis, which is written as follows:
“1 in 8 women get breast cancer. Today, I’m the one. The good news is that I have the most glorious group of supportive and caring friends, and fantastic insurance through my union. The bad news is that not all women are so lucky, so let’s fight all cancers and make universal health care a reality.”
Louis-Dreyfus rose to fame with her breakout role as Elaine on Seinfeld in 1990, but in recent years, she has endeared herself to the world as Selina Meyer on HBO’s Veep. The actress has come to be revered as a kind and considerate woman, and even in her recent breast cancer diagnosis statement, she managed to turn eyes to those that are less fortunate than herself.
Shortly after Louis-Dreyfus tweeted her diagnosis, HBO released an official statement to THR, sending their well wishes and unwavering support:
“Our love and support go out to Julia and her family at this time. We have every confidence she will get through this with her usual tenacity and undaunted spirit, and look forward to her return to health and to HBO for the final season of Veep.”
