Tomorrowland isn't actually based on the Tomorrowland park within the Walt Disney Resort, but I'll go with the comparison anyway...do we have here the new Pirates of the Caribbean?
Well, up until now, it would have been impossible to give a judgment on the upcoming project, as it's been kept super-secret. This is lock n' key, 'if anybody leaks information on this, you will be sent down a black-hole' territory.
But, now, thanks to a splashy (and totally intriguing) presentation at D23, we now have a synopsis for the project, directed by (i.e -none other than THE.BEST.PIXAR.DIRECTOR.EVER) which you can see below:
"Bound by a shared destiny, a bright, optimistic teen bursting with scientific curiosity and a former boy-genius inventor jaded by disillusionment embark on a danger-filled mission to unearth the secrets of an enigmatic place somewhere in time and space that exists in their collective memory as Tomorrowland.”
Now, we don't still even know who's playing who. The assumption is that plays the former boy-genius and (Under the Dome) is the teen. And that we have a villain played by...wait for it.... Dr House as Disney mega-villain? OH, YES.
There's a gazillion rumors about this one (secrecy does nothing but breed speculation, after all!). Now, the rumor that Indiewire is propagating is that George Clooney is set to play Mr Walt Disney himself. That would be a turn out for the books (and only the 2nd film portrayal EVER of Walt Disney after upcoming turn in Saving Mr. Banks!)
And what is Tomorrowland itself? Now they also showed a clip from the film (after a very elaborate stage show, excellently described by Indiewire here): a black-and-white, highly nostalgic animation, it showed Tomorrowland to be a utopia of sorts: a future world with zero crime, zero pollution and a lack of general urban awfulness. So, the indication is that Tomorrowland (helped to creation by Clooney's character) has changed into a far darker place, and Clooney and the kid are going to go and save it!
Nothing is really clear still about this movie. We don't even have confirmation of who plays who! The very detailed Indiewire report helped to clear some of the confusion, but they are still making links that Disney hasn't confirmed. This is one we are going to be asking questions about for a long while yet, so for now, let's revel in the mystery of Tomorrowland...
