Following the tragic attack outside an Ariana Grande concert in Manchester, England, earlier this week, people all over the world took to their social media accounts to share their reactions and prayers for the victims' families. Many celebrities, including Justin Timberlake, Taylor Swift, Harry Styles and Jennifer Lopez shared their feelings and prayers as well. Kim Kardashian joined those celebrities in tweeting a reaction, only hers caused quite the controversy due to including a photograph of herself.
Kim Kardashian Deletes Her Controversial Tweet
In the wake of the bombing, #KimKardashian shared a post that people were not thrilled with. The post contained a picture of Kardashian partying with Ariana Grande, and contained the following text:
"Concerts are supposed to be a place where u can let loose & have fun. So scary to not feel safe in this world. @arianagrande I love you."
The tweet was met with contention because some Twitter users felt that Kardashian's photograph shifted the focus away from the tragedy and on to herself. Kardashian quickly deleted the tweet after receiving criticism, and posted two more tweets (without photo attachments) that better reflected her sentiments:
Kim Kardashian Faces Twitter Backlash
Although Kim Kardashian deleted the tweet and sent out two more appropriate ones, many Twitter users were still not happy with the Keeping Up With The Kardashians star. While we don’t know Kardashian's intentions, perception became reality very quickly:
But other Twitter users defended Kim Kardashian, stating that the picture she used was her way of showing support to her friend, Ariana Grande. Kim Kardashian's tweet was polarizing, but a lot of people understood her intentions:
Kim Kardashian’s tweet was divisive, but once she realized how people perceived it, she deleted it, which shows a fair amount of social awareness. Ironically, this Twitter controversy is doing exactly what people were criticizing Kim Kardashian for — instead of focusing on Kim Kardashian's reaction, we should all focus our thoughts on the tragedy that occurred in Manchester and the people affected by it.
