Kingpin's Connections Between The Series
Since the first episode of Daredevil, we have known that Wilson Fisk is a man of vast connections, domestic and international. How exactly he got to the position where he could establish those relationships was left vague, other than that he left the country for some period of time in the past.
When we see Wilson Fisk again in season two of Daredevil, he immediately knows a mob boss whom he has never met before. His connections are further explored in Luke Cage where big bad Cornell Stokes a.k.a. Cottonmouth and others mention him in a way that implies that they have had dealings with him in the past. This is further hinted at that the fact that they share a lawyer in Benjamin Donovan.
Wilson Fisk had dealings with an organization in Japan. In a private conversation, it is stated that Fisk's dealings with them are considered a "necessary evil" since they bring nothing to the table. People frequently mention that the Japanese are Yakuza but Fisk never actually refers to them as that. It was implied and then flat-out confirmed that the Japanese are not Yakuza, but in actuality The Hand.
The Hand are a notorious ninja cult. They were the main antagonist of the second season of Daredevil. Nobu, the leader of The Hand (or at least this cell), in fact returned from the dead after being accidentally set on fire by Daredevil. Nobu was the main contact with Fisk and their interactions hinted at whatever it is that The Hand are planning. They relied on Fisk to provide trafficking for Black Sky, which are human weapons. They also relied on Fisk to secure a specific building for them.
It is widely believed that the main antagonists of The Defenders will be The Hand. The logo for the show features a large engrossing hand over the title. The trailer also featured a new voiceover from Scott Glenn, who plays Stick. Stick's story arc throughout Daredevil has been his secret war with The Hand and he has been confirmed to appear in the series.
As shown throughout his appearances, Fisk is a man who knows many the criminal underworld. He is also a man who who knows many big players in the "upper crest" ranging from big shot lawyers to politicians. We do not know exactly what character Sigourney Weaver is playing. It is known that she will be part of the big bad ensemble. It's a little hard to believe that she is the leader of The Hand so she might be playing someone else linked to them. The Hand would need some sort of help in their machinations that involves a large building and a very deep hole in the middle of the city.
Fisk is someone who plays things close to the chest and never lets his intentions be shown. It's all but stated that he knows more about The Hand than, say, Daredevil. He would also be aware of the people The Hand have roped into their machinations. He could very well know Sigourney Weaver's character. So will we see the return of Wilson Fisk? It's pretty much a guarantee.
Return of the King
From his last appearance in Daredevil, Fisk is consolidating power. Having vigilantes such as Frank Castle/The Punisher run loose to eliminate the competition. Growing his criminal enterprise from within prison where he's pretty much free to do whatever he pleases. It is not a question of if Wilson Fisk will be released from prison; it's a question of when.
The Defenders will mark a significant point for him to be released. Not only will he be a threat to the heroes, Daredevil especially, but also to the villains who might threaten his new reign as the Kingpin of Crime. You may not expect to see a casting announcement for Vincent D'onofrio as Wilson Fisk. His role in Season 2 of Daredevil was kept a secret until the episodes were released. D'Onofrio was even questioned about his return and said he knew but had to remain tight-lipped.
So will you be excited to see Wilson Fisk make an appearance in The Defenders? Do you want him to appear or maybe be saved later, for the third season of Daredevil?
