Matthew Vaughn’s film Kingsman: The Secret Service surprised audiences and critics when it was released in 2014 with an unusual mix of over-the-top R-rated violence, humor, and some off-the-wall sex jokes. The film captured the essence of the older James Bond films, and improved upon the spy premise while adding sleek visuals and great storytelling.

Kingsman: The Secret Service grossed over $414 million worldwide on an $80 million budget, and Fox announced a sequel quickly after its theater run. Kingsman: The Golden Circle will continue the franchise, and add to the lore. One such expansion will the inclusion of The Statesman, the Kingsman's American counterpart.

Kingsman: The Golden Circle has drafted some serious talent to the Statesman, including Channing Tatum, Halle Berry, Jeff Bridges & Pedro Pascal. Julianne Moore rounds out the cast as the villain, who has the undesirable task of filling the sizable shoes left my Samuel L. Jackson.

News about the sequel has been scarce as of late, and Fox has released little to no promotional material for the film. In fact, the last news we heard is that Sir Elton John would be appearing in the film. But have no fear, Kingsman: The Golden Circle is on schedule, and it will hit theaters slightly early than expected.

Kingsman: The Golden Circle was originally slated for a June 2017 release, but because of Ridley Scott’s Alien: Covenant, the film was pushed back to October 6th. The film shared this new release date with the highly-anticipated sequel Blade Runner 2049, which boasts the combined might of Ryan Gosling and Harrison Ford. If Fox kept Kingsman on its October 6th release date, the film might suffer financially due to Blade Runner.

Thankfully, Fox had the wherewithal to recognize that October 6th might not be the best release date for the film, and moved it to a date with less competition. According to Exhibitor Relations, Fox has moved up Kingsman: The Golden Circle’s release date one week to September 29th. This is a smart move by Fox, and will give the Kingsman sequel very little competition in its opening week.

Sure, Kingsman: The Golden Circle is only moving ahead by one week; however, this move could change the film’s entire box office run. This is great for fans of the franchise, because we get to see the film earlier, and if it does well, Fox will most definitely make a third film – so it's a win-win for Kingsman fans.

As for the film, I have no doubt it will live up to the reputation of its predecessor. Matthew Vaughn is returning to direct, and has already proved his mettle with Kingsman: The Secret Service, Kick-Ass, Stardust, and X-Men: First Class. I have no doubt that his talent, hard work, and the help of a stellar cast will make Kingsman: The Golden Circle a great film. Kingsman: The Golden Circle hits theaters on September 29, 2017.
