Despite her being hard at work this year, there's unfortunately one medium that will not be graced by Lady Gaga's presence this year. Coming straight from the mouth of creator Ryan Murphy, a rumor long believed to be an imminent announcement has had the rug pulled out from under it. And it was one that fans had long clamored for as the perfect fit for the "Perfect Illusion" singer after her turn as The Countess/Witch in the Wood on AHS.

Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, Ryan Murphy discussed the ongoing rumor that led people to believe Lady Gaga would be taking on the role of Donatella Versace in the third installment of . The third season is expected to follow the story of the 1997 murder of Gianni Versace and the subsequent manhunt for and suicide of Versace's killer, Andrew Cunanan.

With her upcoming Halftime Show, shooting the remake of A Star Is Born, and launching a concert tour for her latest album, Joanne, it's not hard to see why the Grammy-winning songstress was unable to commit to the third season of the FX anthology series.

Ultimately had to turn down the role due the five-month commitment the show would've required. Speaking about the Versace installment, Ryan Murphy explained why, even though he would love to have his friend on board, it just wasn't meant to be.

"When you're going to do a show like 'Versace', it's a five month commitment, it's a very big show, we're shooting all over the world. So I just don’t think with her schedule, I knew that it would never had worked."

Although Gaga will likely have her hands full for the foreseeable future, Murphy didn't hesitate to discuss what may lie ahead between him and his dear friend.

"I would love to work with her on something in the future."

Even with her busy schedule, hopefully Gaga will still have time to make guest appearances on the forthcoming seasons of American Horror Story. It just won't be the same without her. American Crime Story: Katrina is scheduled to air in 2018 with Versace/Cunanan to follow six months later.

Are you disappointed Lady Gaga isn't taking part in 'American Crime Story'?
