This article contains spoilers for Legends Of Tomorrow Season 2, Episode 13 "Land Of The Lost." Not even the Waverider will be able to make you unsee it.
This season of Legends Of Tomorrow has revolved around the disappearance of the crew's captain, Rip Hunter. It also focused on his subsequent resurgence; he reappeared as a film director with amnesia. His memories were returned to him — minus the emotional attachment to his teammates — and he became an evil cold-hearted shell of the person he once was.
So, despite Rip not being a member of the team, his absence very much shaped this season.
However, the most recent episode, "Land Of The Lost," saw the team of time-traveling superheroes imprison the deadly Rip while Jax and Sara entered the deep dark confines of his consciousness. Eventually, they managed to return his memories to him, destroying all trace of the emotionless warrior he had become.
And just like that, the Captain is back to take charge of the ship — or is he? After all, we can't forget that White Canary, Sara Lance, took up the role of leader in Rip's absence. Judging by the synopsis of the upcoming episode "Moonshot," it seems that the two might clash over the position:
"Meanwhile, tension grows between Rip (Arthur Darvill) and Sara (Caity Lotz) as to who is the leader of the team."
This raises the question — will the Legends will be answering to Captain Hunter or Captain Lance?
Rip And Sara Will Clash Over Who The True Captain Is?
After Rip's initial disappearance at the beginning of the second season, the team nominated Sara to lead in his absence. And rightly so — from being a member of the League of Assassins to becoming part of Team #Arrow, she knew a lot about teamwork. Thus, the White Canary became Captain Lance, and ended up filling the role perfectly.
While there were times she wavered, she could always count on the Legends to guide her. In fact, it could be argued that they worked more coherently than ever before — and one of the main reasons for that was the fact that Sara was in charge. However, while she did indeed do a great job in the role of interim captain, the team's original captain is back.
So at the moment, the Legends find themselves with two captains. And it seems like that will hinder their mission next week, as there will be some tension between them.
Moreover, if you look closely at the trailer for next week's episode, you will see that Sara is still piloting the Waverider, as a reluctant Rip watches from behind. This suggests that Sara isn't ready to give the role back to her predecessor. Additionally, the bored look on Rip's face also suggests that he doesn't like taking a back seat — literally.
So with the two strong personalities wanting to captain the Legends, the only question is: who will be the last captain standing when Season 2 concludes?

Will This Affect The Team?
Let's face it, the Legends have gained a reputation for messing things up. While they always end up saving the day, that doesn't change the fact that they are responsible for the dangerous situations in the first place. So, with a mission as sacred as the Apollo 13 mission to oversee next week, can they really afford to have warring captains?
Furthermore, with the Legion of Doom destroying whatever they want — whenever they want — it's vital that the Legends stick together. Remember, the Legion was dysfunctional at the beginning of the season, as Eobard Thawne wouldn't trust Damien Darhk or Malcolm Merlyn with his plans. However, all three members have since formed perhaps the most d group of supervillains TV has ever seen.
Thus, with the threat of the Legion looming, Rip and Sara must come to an agreement over who becomes the true captain of the Waverider. After all, if the team ends up having to choose between captains, it could tear them apart completely. As the season finale approaches, can the team stick together long enough to defeat Thawne, Merlyn and Darhk?
Now that Rip has finally regained his memories, he can take over as captain and lead his troops to their second annual victory over evil. However, it seems that Sara won't be willing to hand over the reigns so easily. After all, she did a great job and led the Legends to a number of successes during her tenure as captain.
And based on the synopsis for next week's episode, it looks like the two are set to clash over leadership. Can they coexist long enough to oversee the Apollo-13 mission and stop the Legion of Doom? Or will the warring captains risk reality itself by allowing the Legion to utilize the Spear of Destiny?
Who do you think should captain the Waverider?
