Without a doubt, Legends Of Tomorrow is renowned for its ability to bring the most unlikely of characters together. In two seasons, we have seen assassins team up with scientists, arsonists sacrifice themselves for the greater good, and time lords take on immortal tyrants — all of which took place at different points throughout time.
With Season 3 on the horizon, we have to wonder: what's next for our favorite time-traveling #superheroes?
While we already know that they're going to be recruiting some new members for the team, they'll face some worthy villainous competition as well. We may not know much about this season's main threat yet, but it seems that the occult entity will be bringing back some familiar faces.
Grodd Is Coming To Legends
At the show's panel during the Television Critics Association press tour, it was revealed that Gorilla Grodd will be appearing during Season 3. The hyper-intelligent telepathic gorilla is a well-known rogue of #TheFlash, and has had run-ins with Barry Allen during all three seasons of the #TV series. He was last seen in the Gorilla City two-parter, during which Solovar imprisoned him for his crimes against gorilla- and humankind.
This leaves us wondering: just where (and when) will Grodd show up in Legends Of Tomorrow? Executive producer Phil Klemmer shed some light on the situation by revealing that Grodd will be one of the acolytes who follow the occult entity that will be the season's Big Bad. Revealing that this will be a post-Gorilla City version of the character, Klemmer commented:
"It will be a version of him that we have not met yet on any of the shows. It will be the most evolved and powerful form of Grodd."
As we have seen on The Flash before, Grodd has never taken defeat too well, so you can bet that he'll be even more moody when the Legends encounter him. But with the influence of the unknown Big Bad, just how powerful will Grodd become?
A Darhk Day In Hell
Grodd isn't the only major Arrowverse character set to make an impact in Legends Of Tomorrow Season 3. Marc Guggenheim revealed that Legends Season 2 villain Damien Darhk would be returning to the show. However, this time, there is one major change.
The version of Darhk that joined the Legion of Doom in Legends' second season was a previous iteration of the character, who had yet to obtain his mystical powers. But Guggenheim has confirmed that this season, we will see a "post-Arrow Season 4 Damien Darhk."
For anyone who isn't aware, Darhk actually was the Big Bad of #Arrow Season 4. A comical but deadly villain, he possessed mystical powers and ended up killing Black Canary, Laurel Lance; he was eventually killed by the Green Arrow in the season finale.
However, Legends EP Wendy Mericle suggested that he will be revived by the mysterious supernatural Big Bad and he too will become a faithful acolyte to the entity. She stated:
"Damian Darhk is going to be the leader of this group in the way Thawne was sort of the boss last year for the Legion of Doom. This group is distinctly led up by Damien. We have a fun way to bring him back that kind of plays into the season-long mythology."
It's a well-known fact that the present day super-powered version of Damien Darhk is much more sinister than the Legends Season 2 version. And you can bet he'll be even worse when he is resurrected to serve this unknown evil.
With Legends Of Tomorrow gearing up for its third season, the showrunners are pulling out all the stops. With broken timelines, a terrifying new threat who is utilizing the services of Gorilla Grodd, and a resurrected Damien Darhk, it looks like things are about to get rather hairy for the superheroes. There's no doubt about it, the Legends are in for one hell of a year.
