While FX's Legion may have divided its critics, it is unsurprising that the show has been renewed for a second season on hype alone. As the tale of David Haller grows larger and we are introduced to a new batch of personalities and faces, the big question hangs around who else from the world of #XMen could nestle up alongside #DanStevens in his titular role on #Legion
Those who follow the #comicbook universe of mutants and madmen will know that Legion has a rather famous daddy. While Magneto is known for his handful offspring Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver, Charles Xavier also got nasty between the sheets with Holocaust survivor Gabrielle Haller to produce the dissociative identity disordered Legion. Showrunner #NoahHawley has always remained open to the idea of Charles attending parents' evening, promising that Xavier's arrival is something that the show will "definitely approach" as the show moves into Season 2.
Two For The Price Of One
In a conference call between Hawley and some of the major comic book sites, he teased some tantalizing tidbits on what to expect next time around. As we prepare the wheelchair ramp for the arrival of the chrome-domed mutant, the big question now is, who will play Legion's parental psychic? #Fox has done a pretty good job of crafting its own X-verse over the past 17 years, containing two Xaviers, but if Charles is to meet with David, will it be #PatrickStewart or #JamesMcAvoy?
Hawley promises that it is a conversation that is at the forefront of his mind:
"I think that's something we're definitely going to approach...It's a creative conversation, but it's also a sort of corporate conversation, you know, on some level – in terms of the movie studio and their relationship to the X-Men and the characters they want in the movies and want to protect potentially."
Speaking about who could play the de facto leader of the mutants, Hawley remains open to casting either iteration of the Prof:
"And were we to want to have Professor X on the show, or even Patrick Stewart on the show, James McAvoy or one of those actors, [it] is a conversation both with the actor and with the studio. So, I don’t know, I haven’t really dived into that quandary yet, but certainly I need to start thinking about it."

Stewart famously bowed out of his tenure as Xavier in #JamesMangold's #Logan, which firmly shut the book on his character, but the 76-year-old has previously revealed that he would return for the likes of the #MCU or even Legion. Elsewhere, McAvoy is still technically in the role of Charles following Bryan Singer's X-Men: Apocalypse, but with that universe up in the air too, anything could happen.
Stewart and Stevens conveniently appeared on James Corden's Late Late Show, where the veteran actor was pretty much offered the part, to which he responded "I'm in." Sorry, McAvoy, don't take it personally.
Hawley certainly seems intent on telling his own version of the story, and just like his anthology show Fargo has veered away from the version that we already knew, Legion is set to continue doing the same:
"My goal was always to sort of use this character as a way to have a conversation and tell a story that was my story, that was interesting to me, and to try to get at the heart of what this character is and [what] this journey is for him, not literally sort of reenacting issues of the comic book, or storylines from the comic book.
"I don’t think you’ll see the show suddenly look to the comics for storylines," Hawley continued, "but you may see ideas or characters or images that are familiar to you."
Whatever happens, the second season of #FX's show promises to dive deeper into the mind of David, and almost certainly include at least a nod to his parentage, if not a full-blown cameo. With Xavier all but confirmed for the show, who else could suit up once more to take a ride with the family? Here's looking at you, Hugh!
