It is a sad day for all fans of Leonardo DiCaprio. It appears that the Hollywood icon has gotten himself into quite a pickle when it comes to his environmental efforts — of which there are many (as we all know). For one, his documentary movie Before the Flood has just hit the big screen:
It seems that a rainforest charity hasn't been all too pleased with Leo recently and are calling on him to resign from his high perch as the United Nations Messenger of Peace for climate change. Why? I hear you cry. Well, it appears that his ties with Riza Aziz and Jho Low, who are smack bang in the middle of some seriously hefty embezzlement allegations in Malaysia, have ruffled some feathers.
According to Lukas Straumann, of the Bruno Manser Fund:
"Leonardo DiCaprio has consistently refused to explain his close personal and financial ties with key persons of the Malaysian 1MDB scandal. This is unacceptable. If DiCaprio fails to distance himself from Malaysian corruption, he should resign as UN Messenger of Peace for climate change. We can’t save the environment if we fail to stop corruption.”

Speaking at a press conference, Straumann also said:
"He needs to become part of the solution, but today he is part of the problem."
These claims came to light after the fund discovered that the actor's charity, the Leonardo DiCaprio Foundation, received millions of dollars from Low and Aziz that were allegedly stolen from a Malaysian state fund called 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB for short). This money was also reportedly diverted to finance the production of his movie The Wolf of Wall Street.
Both of the chairmen have denied this and the US Justice Department are now apparently investigating.
Ultimately, let's hope this mess is cleared up soon, because a world without Leo as UN Messenger of Peace would be a very sad one indeed.
Do you think Leonardo DiCaprio should resign from his UN Messenger of Peace position?
