During the Super Bowl, Columbia Pictures released the second trailer for Life. The movie poses an interesting challenge for mankind: a group of astronauts try to contain a life-form whose species wiped out Mars and will certainly destroy mankind if it reaches Earth.
Naturally, we need competent individuals to stop such a cataclysmic event from happening. And who could be better for that than #RyanReynolds and #JakeGyllenhaal? Here are three moments that prove they could totally pull it off:
1. When They Totally Depended On Each Other
To accomplish something while working as a team, it's important to trust your partner's abilities and work in unison. This connection is displayed in the latest trailer for #Life. Jake Gyllenhaal (Dr. David Jordan) is a doctor and Ryan (Roy Adams) is one of the astronauts in the mission to find life from Mars. In the footage, we see Roy catching a long-awaited space pod from said planet, as David oversees the procedure.
The proud look on Jordan's face as Adams catches the pod tells us all we need to know about their trusting bond. Which makes it easy to see these two could depend on each other to accomplish their task when an alien plant is trying to get to Earth while they're trapped with it in a space shuttle. And going by the trailer, it looks like they will indeed be put in those situations.
2. The Time When They Raved About Each Other's Work
Companionship and respect are the most important aspects for a partnership. They're the necessary components for success. One way to show it is by recognizing each other's strengths and talents. Ryan did just that by congratulating Jake through Twitter for his performance in the play Sunday In The Park With George:
When asked about their relationship during an interview for #NocturnalAnimals, Jake said this:
"He's a good man. He's like a brother; he became [one] really quickly. We just connected."
In return, Gyllenhaal praised Reynold's work in #Deadpool when talking about the actor's painful snub at the Oscars, stating:
“We talk about brilliant performances all the time, you know, the actors who tear themselves apart for their roles, which I’m a believer in. But then I look at Ryan Reynolds in 'Deadpool' and I say, ‘No one can do that but him.’ That is truly, purely him. As an artist, he struggled for several years to figure that out, and it’s all there on the screen. And it’s brilliant.”
That kind of love and admiration will certainly come in handy when one of them is being attacked by a killer alien plant and needs help from the other. However, they're smart about their feelings...
3. When They Didn't Let Emotions Get In The Way Of Their Mission
Being emotionally attached to someone when having to accomplish an objective can be incredibly difficult. If you are in a volatile environment, like these two, there will eventually come a time when you or your companion will need help and either one of you will have to go...
That's what seems to be going on in this gripping moment in the trailer, when Ryan desperately tries to float to safety but Gyllenhaal's character is forced to keep him out, presumably for being in contact with the alien form. Reynold's character might not like it, but it's great to know they're ready to make a sacrifice for the greater good.
BONUS: Real-Life Bromance!
Like that time that Jake stepped in to help Ryan out as a boom mic operator when Ryan was getting grilled by his "twin":
That's a good friend, right there.
