The easy way to sell Planetarium would be to describe it as "Natalie Portman and Lily-Rose Depp in a bathtub," but there's much more to this upcoming French drama. Set in pre-World War II Paris, the movie follows two American sisters who believe they can communicate with the dead, played by Portman and Johnny Depp's daughter. They meet a producer in Paris who dreams of bringing their show to the big screen in the early days of cinema, but none of them could have imagined how dangerous things could get at the end of the 1930s.

Unfortunately, the trailer hasn't got an English dubbing yet, but the aesthetic and the talent of the actors involved are pointing to a promising feature. What might also strike you is the resemblance between Portman and Depp, who's just recently started to appear in films. Not only are they playing sisters in Planetarium, but Portman specifically picked Depp to appear alongside her, which makes you think that she would be the ideal mentor to the budding actress.

They Both Look So Similar!

Obviously, good looks don't make the talent, but it can't be a coincidence that both actresses look so much alike. At 13, Portman was a bit younger when she got her breakthrough role in Luc Besson's Léon: The Professional, while Depp, now 17, just started her movie career with Yoga Hosers and Planetarium.

We can't help but draw a parallel between their fashion careers as well, since they have both appeared in campaigns for luxe French designers. Portman is a regular of the Miss Dior perfume ads; Depp recently posed for Karl Lagerfeld in a sunglasses campaign for Chanel. Now all we need is them doing a photoshoot together!

Most importantly, they seem to be taking the same kind of approach to their work, far away from the cliché of the child star so abundant in Hollywood. While Portman took a break from acting to study at Harvard, Depp has also shown she won't let herself be submerged by the prospect of worldwide fame. In an interview with Vanity Fair, she explained she wanted to take her time breaking into cinema:

"The only movies I want to do are the ones I'm passionate about. I care about school, and I'm still a kid. I want to live like that while I can."

Seeing as Planetarium has already gained international attention without having even translated the trailer, we can only hope the movie earns enough praise to open more interesting opportunities for Depp. If Natalie Portman joins Johnny Depp and Vanessa Paradis — Lily-Rose's parents — in teaching her about acting, there's no doubt Lily-Rose has an exciting acting career ahead!

Do you think Lily-Rose Depp could follow in Natalie Portman's footsteps?
