It's true that this year has been flying by, but the stretch between the start of November and the upcoming release of 's The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug has felt as long as Frodo's trek to Mordor. To reward you for your patience, the studio has released, via Soundcloud, over forty minutes of 's score for The Desolation of Smaug. You might recall that Shore has composed the music for all of Jackson's forays into Middle-earth.

To be completely honest, I didn't much care for The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey. However, the one thing I could find no fault with was the music. Over the course of these films, Shore has been one of the most steadfast constants in terms of quality. No shocker given that he's one of the best in the business. His compositions not only artfully brought Tolkien's world from the page to the screen, but it's the element of this franchise that must immerses the audience in that world.

This latest score, at least what is available to hear in this sample, is unsurprisingly excellent.
