Over the holidays, some rather intriguing rumors began to circulate around, namely the indication of #RyanReynolds filming scenes for Logan. It was rumored that Reynolds was suiting up as #Deadpool to make a cameo in the film but it turns out those claims were false.
The director of Logan, #JamesMangold took to Twitter to dispute those claims with a clear response, indicating that Reynolds' Deadpool would "not" make an appearance in the film.
Ryan Reynolds also confirmed that his character, Deadpool would not be joining #Wolverine (Hugh Jackman) in his last outing as the titular clawed mutant. That being said, maybe we're looking at this news all wrong.
Ryan Reynolds' Deadpool Won't Appear In Logan
For now, we can firmly exclude Deadpool from showing up in Logan since both James Mangold and Ryan Reynolds have vehemently denied those rumors. However, another type of crossover between Wolverine's world and Deadpool's world may be in the works.
To be clear, it doesn't seem like Deadpool would have fit within the context of the future world established in Logan so that possibility shouldn't have even been thrown out from the start. And since the world established in Logan is a mutant-less world, Deadpool's existence would be questionable to say the least.
Logan will introduce a variety of new characters who haven't been seen in the X-Men Cinematic Universe yet; #CharlesXavier and Wolverine being the exception. But out of all the new characters introduced in Logan, only one character is likely to have a follow-up appearance: X-23.
Is Logan Setting Up X-23 For A Featured Role In Deadpool's Universe?
#X23, otherwise known as #LauraKinney (Dafne Keen) has been confirmed for a role in Logan and will be by Wolverine's side for most of the film. Logan will introduce X-23 as a young girl who becomes Wolverine's charge after he finds out that X-23 is his clone and the closest thing he has to family.
After Laura / X-23 makes her debut in Logan, her next appearance will probably come in Deadpool 2. Now, you may be asking why Laura Kinney / X-23 would make an appearance in Deadpool 2 and the answer to that question is quite intriguing.
If you haven't already heard, #Deadpool2 isn't just a sequel, it's part of a trilogy. In late 2016, 20th Century Fox confirmed they were moving forward with Deadpool 2, as well as laying out plans for Deadpool 3. Fox also indicated that Deadpool 3 would feature the mutant team known as X-Force.
The Hollywood Reporter provided the scoop:
Deadpool was a surprise massive hit ($782.6 million) in February, so the studio has moved quickly to fill the sequel's director chair, with John Wick's David Leitch now in negotiations. And in a sign of how much faith it has in the Reynolds-starring franchise, Fox already is planning Deadpool 3, readying a filmmaker search for a storyline that will involve another X-team, X-Force.
Will X-23 Join Deadpool And Cable In Their X-Force Adventure?
In terms of why X-Force and #Deadpool3 are of relevance here is because X-23 is a well known member of X-Force in the comics so it's reasonable to assume that her introduction in Logan will be followed up by an appearance in Deadpool 2, setting her up to become a full-fledged member of X-Force during Deadpool 3.
In the comics, X-23 has also been known as a member of #XForce alongside #Cable, who just so happens to have a featured role in Deadpool 2. And with X-Force being the next major arc to play out in Deadpool's world, it wouldn't be too much of a stretch for X-23 and Cable to join up in Deadpool 3 as members of X-Force. Although, the X-23 introduced in Deadpool 2, 3 probably won't be the same X-23 who appears in Logan.
Since Logan takes place in a future timeline that's not in sync with Deadpool's world, any version of X-23 seen in Deadpool 2 or Deadpool 3 will probably be more experienced and mature in age. And with time travel being a component utilized in Deadpool 2, a future era would be the perfect place for an adult X-23 to show up rather than a young X-23 who wouldn't be as beneficial to the team.
Still, it's a shame that Deadpool won't be joining Wolverine in Logan. And seeing as how Logan will be the first film that Wolverine gets to go on a non-stop, R-rated rampage, it's really disappointing that Deadpool won't be there to join him. But, we can take solace in the potential for Deadpool to fight alongside another clawed mutant, X-23, when Deadpool 2 arrives next year. Or if that scenario doesn't pan out, it's still plausible for X-23 to have a role in Deadpool 3 with X-Force being the main focus of the film.
