"I'm the best there is at what I do."

Ripped from the pages of Uncanny X-Men #162, this iconic quote is technically spoken by Wolverine, yet arguably applies even more to his real-life counterpart, Hugh Jackman. After all, will be Jackman's ninth turn in the role of the 'Ol Canucklehead, making it impossible now to imagine anyone else wielding those claws or magnificent mutton chops.

Thus, it may not come as much of a surprise to discover that holds serious clout with the studio these days, especially considering how integral he's become to the franchise. Even so, we were still surprised to discover exactly how influential Jackman is behind the scenes.

During an exclusive interview with Movie Pilot, Logan star relayed the story of how he first met Jackman on set, who was reportedly very impressed with the actor's work:

"With Hugh, I was very interested in meeting him. I was kind of waiting outside his trailer like a puppy — waiting, waiting, waiting — and then he came out and said I really loved your tape, meaning my audition tape."

Although Holbrook's profile has risen hugely following his success on , Donald Pierce is Boyd's first significant A-list role in a Hollywood blockbuster, one which will hopefully propel him to the big leagues. It's understandable, then, that even a star like Holbrook would be bowled over by a compliment from the Oscar-nominated Hugh Jackman.

However, it turns out that Jackman's approval was even more important than Holbrook realized:

"It didn't really register until about halfway through the conversation that [Hugh] had to approve me being in the film... then it became a chain reaction where everybody had to approve me up and down the ladder at Fox, showing the size of this project."

Hordes of people are involved in the hiring process for tentpole pictures like Logan, but it must have been particularly gratifying for actor to hear that the star of the film approved their audition tape:

“At that moment, it definitely put me at ease and that I was one of the gang.”

It won't be long now until Holbrook proves himself to comic book fans too, as the final chapter in the trilogy is set to hit cinemas on March 2. Let's just hope that Jackman changes his mind regarding that pesky decision to retire, allowing both he and Boyd to reunite in another Logan film somewhere later down the line.
