More than the escalating absurdity of stunts and its direct proportion to the skyrocketing box office returns, one of the defining characteristics of the last three Fast and the Furious films has been the reuniting of cast members from franchise past. Fast Five was the the height of this new direction, bringing back almost every conceivable veteran from the previous movies. One notable exception however was , the star of The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift. There were of course reasons for this absence, narrative continuity and what not, but now it appears the Lucas Black drought is over.
According to Deadline, Black has signed a deal to appear as his Tokyo Drift character, Sean Boswell, in Furious 7 and at least the next two sequels after that. He will join a cast that includes , , as well as returning leads , , and .
Without spoiling anything for those who haven't seen Tokyo Drift, there were already indicators that Fast Five and Fast & Furious 6 took place BEFORE Drift. Putting Lucas Black back into the mix means that the next film will now exceed the Tokyo Drift timeline. To be perfectly honest, Sean Boswell is a character I did not miss at all over the last three films. His cloying voice and dopey faux charm were far from endearing to me.
I don't know, what do you guys think?
