The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug star is swapping Middle-earth for Transylvania. The British actor is now taking on the leading role in Universal's Dracula Untold.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Evans will star as a "young prince who, when the lives of his wife and child are put in danger by a bloodthirsty sultan, risks his soul to save them." In the process, he becomes the first vampire. Think a mash-up between Twilight and Batman Begins, only with a lot more blood. You get the idea.

Universal's latest retelling of the Dracula myth will be directed by , who's making his directorial debut, while the movie also marks Evans's first starring role for the studio, having worked with them recently supporting in Fast & Furious 6.

Shooting on Dracula is slated to begin later this year.
