Back during Star Wars Celebration Weekend, Mace Windu himself, Samuel L. Jackson, made a special appearance. He then demanded that production begins on a solo Mace Windu movie because, according to him, "we didn't see him die." Well, it looks like Jackson's wish is being halfway realized, as Windu is set to get his own comic book series through Marvel.
The news broke first on Star Wars.com that the official title of the series is called Star Wars: Jedi of the Republic – Mace Windu. The series will be written by Matt Owens and illustrated by Denys Cowan. It is set to be released in August 2017 and will run for five issues. Below is the cover for the first book, illustrated by Jesus Saiz. Along with that, to celebrate Star Wars' 40th anniversary, fans can expect to receive special variant covers from artists Russell Dauterman as well as Rahzzah and Javier Rodriguez.
Starwars.com also released Marvel's official synopsis for the series, giving readers an idea when this is set to take place:
For over a thousand generations, the Jedi have been the peacekeepers of the galaxy…but now, at the dawn of the Clone Wars, they find themselves in a new role: generals in the Army of the Republic. As Mace Windu, one of the Jedi’s greatest warriors, leads a small unit of Jedi into battle shortly after the war begins, the Jedi must make peace with their new role, or be lost to the violence around them!
So, while it is not the solo movie that Jackson wished for, it is definitely something that any Mace Windu fan will be sure to enjoy. However, the game is not up yet for a Mace Windu Solo movie, as Lucasfilm and Disney are expected to be making solo movies up until 2030. So, there is still a possibility, as long as the Force allows it.
