Margot Robbie has quickly become a household name in 2016. The 26-year-old Australian actress was just recently named IMDb's most viewed actress/actor of 2016. Needless to say, Robbie has been nothing short of a freight train as of late. Although, the two questions many are asking themselves is: Where did she come from? and How did she do it so quickly? Let's take a look, shall we?
Margot's first real role came in the form of the Australian-based show called Neighbors. Robbie played a simple side character named Donna Freedman. That said, this role did manage to open up other television roles for Robbie, such as another Australian-based show called Pan Am. While the roles didn't gain much recognition on an international scale, both shows exposed Robbie to a large national audience. This exposure would allow Robbie to build up the confidence to travel to America to try out the Hollywood film industry.
'The Wolf Of Wall Street' (2013)
Luckily for Robbie, she had attracted the interest of legendary director Martin Scorsese. Scorsese decided to cast Robbie for the part of Leonardo DiCaprio's wife, Naomi Lapaglia, in his film #TheWolfOfWallStreet. Not only did the film achieve high success, it open the floodgates of Robbie's career. Her racy performance alongside such a powerhouse like DiCaprio was bound to attract the attention of not just many fans, but also other casting directors. In fact, her performance in the film allowed her to be nominated for several awards — and even win a few.
Robbie's next big film came in the form of Focus, an American romantic crime comedy-drama. In the film she starred alongside yet another big name: Will Smith. Focus grossed just a little over $159 million according to Box Office Mojo, but it's actually the chemistry in the film that was important to Robbie's career. Her chemistry with Will Smith proved to stand the test. The only real here problem is that the film itself was fairly scrutinized in many areas. After all, it did only score a 56 percent on Rotten Tomatoes. Still, the film proved to be a major milestone in Robbie's career.
'The Legend Of Tarzan' (2016)
The Legend of Tarzan was perhaps the film that officially shot Robbie into the mainstream spotlight. Well, that and the fact at the time of the film's release she also had just finished up her role as Harley Quinn in #SuicideSquad. In The Legend of Tarzan, Robbie plays Tarzan's love interest Jane Porter and once again delivers a special performance. While the film struggled with critics, Robbie's stellar performance was still acknowledge among the many who waited many years to see a live-action Tarzan film.
At the world premiere of the film, Robbie suffered a slight wardrobe malfunction, to which co-star Alexander Skarsgård came to the rescue. While the incident may seem unimportant and common among celebrities, it did help promote even further Robbie's name in the world of Hollywood.
'Suicide Squad' (2016)
Robbie's role of Harley Quinn in this year's Suicide Squad proved to be her biggest role yet — and rightfully so. Robbie spent many months ahead of filming getting into the best physical shape to play "The Clown Princess Of Crime." Despite receiving extremely harsh reviews, Suicide Squad went on to earn over $745 million worldwide according to Box Office Mojo. Once again, Robbie's acting received nothing but praise. Her portrayal of Harley Quinn was fun, adventurous, and was the glue that held the film together. Robbie co-starred again beside Will Smith, who played #Deadshot, and the two rekindled their solid chemistry from Focus. The film also proved to be Robbie's official initiation into the world of A-list Hollywood actors and actresses. It also made her a extremely popular cosplay figure and Halloween costume.

Robbie's role in Suicide Squad was so well received that now she is officially getting her own Harley Quinn film called Gotham City Sirens. The film is set to star Robbie's Harley Quinn alongside Catwoman and Poison Ivy. David Ayer, the director of Suicide Squad, will also be directing this film. That said, the film is currently is eyeing a release date of 2018 but seems to be moving quickly as far as planning goes. Although Robbie does have other films lined up, #HarleyQuinn will more than likely take up a good majority of her time in the coming years.
Margot's Thoughts On Her Fame
Perhaps the greatest part of Robbie's success is that she had doubts that she would ever even work again after her role in 2013's The Wolf of Wall Street. Here's what she said in an interview with TIME Magazine:
"I was worried that people would be expecting too much of me now, like, ‘If Scorsese cast her in a film, she must be brilliant!’ Instead of having the chance to surprise people, I was worried that I’d disappoint them.”
It's safe to say that Margot could've never expected to get to the point of where she's at today. Considering she is now recognized all over the world.
Personally, I think Margot is a great actress. She has really put in her time and has shined in many films that would've been considered complete fails if she were absent from them. Not to mention, she is a great role model for aspiring actresses and actors alike. Lastly, make sure you check out the video below, where Margot describes in detail her climb to the top:
