It seems like there's no one in DC who knows quite what's going on with regards to its movie franchise. Recently, a flood of reports from several reputable sources have gone to great lengths to claim they have knowledge of several upcoming DC ventures, including DC's decision to film a 1980s set Joker movie (with Leonardo DiCaprio as the favorite to lead, no less) despite already having a Joker in their #DCEU. There have also been comments made and then subsequently redacted, that have put Ben Affleck's future as the Dark Knight in jeopardy. With all the chaos in the DC world, it's no surprise fans are getting confused by the state of the DC films. And now, it seems fan-favorite actress #MargotRobbie shares the fans' confusion too.
The Puddin' Problem
In an interview with The Wrap, the #SuicideSquad actress — when asked when she'd start filming a DC film — replied:
“I think next year I’ll be back in the fishnets wielding a baseball bat, I hope.”
And when the reporter asked her where exactly we'll see #HarleyQuinn next — as she's set to appear in Suicide Squad 2, in addition to playing the lead in both the upcoming Gotham City Sirens movie and the Harley Quinn and The Joker movie (rumored to be called Harley Quinn vs. The Joker) — the actress replied:
“Your guess is as good as mine at this point. I don’t know.”
As strange as it is to believe that #DC wouldn't have kept Margot Robbie in the loop, presumably this is because Warner Bros. don't quite know what to do with Harley Quinn next. This, of course, does not bode well for Robbie's pet project, the female-lead anti-hero movie #GothamCitySirens, as this movie should have been on the fast track towards pre-production.
DC In Disarray?
In fact, things seem to be up in the air all over the DCEU, as rumors fly about the fate of The Batman, and characters like Deathstroke seem to be on the chopping block as of late. Margot Robbie's comments come shortly after DCEU's resident #Joker Jared Leto admitted that he too was confused by what the studio was doing with regards to its comic book characters. In an interview with ODE, he stated:
"I’m a little confused too, but yeah, there are a couple of things happening in the DC world and I loved the Joker, he’s a great character, a really fun character to play."
So with actors just as lost as we are about the predicament of their characters in the DCEU, one has to wonder what the hell is going on in DC right now!
It's fair to say that some of this confusion has resulted because of the frequent reports on the DCEU, and the subsequent game of Chinese whispers has many a fan at their wit's end. After the success of Wonder Woman, the comic book company should have kept fans' attention on the impending mega-blockbuster Justice League. Instead, rumors of the going-ons at DC HQ have got everyone worried about the state of the company's movie franchise. And with Margot Robbie just as clueless about this as we are, things don't seem to be looking up for the fate of the DCEU.
How do you think we'll see Harley Quinn again? And what's your take on all that's happening in the DCEU? Drop me a comment below!
