It may seem odd, considering we haven't even seen The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug yet (may December hurry up!), but filming on the trilogy-capper, The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies, is wrapping up currently. AND has filmed his last scenes! Yes, Bilbo Baggins has left the building. The end is nigh, Tolkein-fanboys!
Following up the departures of LOTR alumni and , director has said goodbye to his Bilbo Baggins and left him with these short, rather flattering words:
"Tonight Martin Freeman finished his last shot as Bilbo Baggins. The end of an incredible two and a half years. I cannot imagine anyone else in this role - a character that Martin has nurtured and crafted with love and great skill."
I totally agree. Whatever you think of The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey, many were unanimous in their praise of Freeman's protagonist and he inhibited the role, for me at least, to perfection. posted these photo's on Facebook too, one of Freeman waving goodbye to the set and one of him larking around with , who portrays the villainous Smaug!
