After starring in Lee Daniel’s The Butler, Oprah Winfrey is adding her illustrious name to another civil rights drama.
The TV icon will produce Selma, a biopic about Martin Luther King. The movie will focus on the Selma to Montgomery marches King led in Alabama in the 1965.
The up-and-coming David Oyelowo, who played Oprah’s son in Lee Daniels' The Butler, will star as the civil rights leader, while Ava DuVernay, director of the critically acclaimed Middle of Nowhere, is helming the promising project.
Winfrey isn’t the only EFP (extremely famous person) on board, lending Selma a helping hand: Brad Pitt is also producing under his Plan B banner. He did likewise for Steve McQueen’s excellent 12 Years A Slave.
