It's official – Leonardo DiCaprio's upcoming collaboration with legendary director Martin Scorsese is finally in the works. For years, tantilizing rumors regarding The Devil in the White City have been causing quite a stir and now, it appears that progress is finally being made.

Based on an adaptation of Erik Larson's book The Devil in the White City: Murder, Magic, and Madness at the Fair that Changed America, the movie will bring to life the true story of one of the darkest figures in American history — the infamous serial killer Henry Howard Holmes, who may have killed up to 200 people in his "Murder Castle" built around the Chicago World Fair in the 1890s.

Using a complex system of secret passageways, hidden rooms and poisonous gas, H. H. Holmes would lure hotel visitors in, dismembering and disposing of their bodies in the building's basement. He sold his victims's skeletons for medical and scientific studies.

And interestingly, despite the fact the focus will certainly remain on the heinous crimes committed, the adaptation is speculated to also bring forward the actions of Daniel H. Burnham, the architect behind the 1983 World's Fair.

'It's An Extraordinary Story"

Although there's been a decent amount of hype surrounding , this is one of the first time that the director has provided us on an update on what's actually happening. Speaking to Sun Media, Martin Scorsese said:

"Right now, there is a script being worked on."

He then admitted that production had come to halt over the past six months due to the final push to bring his other passion project to the big screen — here's the trailer:

However, with the Andrew Garfield and Adam Driver-led blockbuster hitting theaters in the US on January 6, the road has now been officially cleared for Scorsese's next endeavour. He teased the following timetable of proceedings:

“One of the things that I had to stop for the past six months was my meetings on ['The Devil In The White City.'] They want me to start again in January and see if we can find a way because it’s an extraordinary story.”

Considering the fact that this will be the director's sixth outing with — who purchased the rights to the film back in 2010 and is also set to produce — we can only expect great things if their magnificent collaborations on the likes of Gangs of New York, The Aviator, The Departed, Shutter Island and The Wolf of Wall Street are anything to go by.

Ultimately, over the course of their time in the Hollywood spotlight, the dynamic duo have certainly established a wonderful personal and professional relationship. To use Scorsese own words:

"We’ve become very close and we really love hanging out together.”
